In daily life, cling film has become an indispensable item in our kitchens. There are many types on the market, and some are even harmful to the human body. So what should we pay attention to when purchasing, and how to choose safe and healthy cling film?
There are three main materials for cling film on the market: PE (polyethylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), and PVDC (polyvinylidene chloride). Among them, PE cling film is more commonly used and safer. Because PVC needs to add a large number of plasticizers and other additives during processing to make it thinner and softer. Plasticizers are harmful to the human body, especially men, and may seriously lead to infertility. It is the existence of these additives that makes PVC cling film harmful to the human body. Therefore, this kind of cling film should not be used for packaging cooked food and oil-containing foods, but can be used to package fruits and vegetables. The safety of PVDC is comparable to that of PE, with good stability. It is generally used for cooked food packaging in food processing, such as sausages and bean products. It is relatively rare in household cling film.
The outer packaging of cling film produced by regular manufacturers and sold in supermarkets will clearly indicate "PE" or "PVC". Simply choose "PE" cling film. In addition, there will be a QS mark on the outer packaging, which is a mark indicating that the manufacturer is licensed to produce and enter the market. If it does not contain both of these and the spray code is unclear, do not buy it.
PE cling film is generally more transparent. Although PVC cling film also looks transparent when torn open, when it is wrapped around a roll, it will be found that the overall color is whitish and not transparent. Because the raw material formula of PE cling film varies slightly among manufacturers, the overall transparency varies but it is generally more transparent than PVC. Therefore, when selecting, you can choose cling film that is more transparent.
